Alpamayo Mountain is located in the Peruvian Andes and serves as one the pinnacle natural wonders of South America. In 1966, Alpamayo mountain received the designation as “the most beautiful mountain in the world” by a survey from international photographers and climbers.
Cordillera Blanca is the mountain range that serves as home to Alpamayo and the overall beautiful Andes mountains. One of the key features of Alpamayo is the almost perfectly 60 degree symmetrical pyramid shape. It is shorter than some of the surrounding peaks, but it reaches a height of 19,511 feet (5,947 m).
The name for the mountain comes from the local village with the same name, however the local name of the mountain is Shuyturahu which translates into “thin and long, pyramid, snowy mountain.”
